Campbell Law Alumnae to Receive 2012 Women of Justice Awards
RALEIGH, N.C. –Campbell Law alumnae Shelby Benton and Kimberly Miller have both been named recipients of 2012 Women of Justice Awards. Benton and Miller will receive their awards during a gala ceremony on November 15, and will also be featured in a special section of North Carolina Lawyers Weekly.
Hosted by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly, the Women of Justice Awards annually recognize women across the state of North Carolina who have demonstrated leadership, integrity, service, sacrifice, and accomplishment in improving the quality of justice and exemplifying the highest ideals of the legal profession.
A 1985 graduate of Campbell Law, Benton will receive the Litigation Practitioner Award, for fulfilling the aforementioned ideals in improving the quality of justice or contributing to the betterment of the profession. A partner at Hollowell & Benton, PA in Goldsboro, N.C., she recently received the 2012 Citizen Lawyer Award from the North Carolina Bar Association.
Miller, who graduated from Campbell Law in 2007, will receive the Rising Star Award, which is given to women lawyers 40-years of age or younger or within the first 10 years of practice who have already made a difference in the justice system or the profession and who appear on a path toward even greater accomplishment. Miller is a partner at Owens & Miller, PLLC in Raleigh, N.C.
In addition to Benton and Miller, Campbell Law professor and former dean Melissa Essary will receive the Legal Scholar Award at the 2012 Women of Justice Awards.
